How To Rest Correctly To Build Muscle
The way you allow your body to rest will determine how much or how little you will be able to put on muscle. The way you rest is just as important as the way you workout and the way you eat.
And if you don’t practice these three things you WILL not see the best results. That being said resting is probably the second most important of those three, right behind your diet and right before your workout regiment.
And the weird thing about building muscle is the more you allow your body to rest the more bigger you will get, like we talked about in the workout section. Obviously there is a point where too much rest will bring the opposite effect, but realistically you could rest for a week and still be building muscle.
It should be also noted that resting just doesn’t mean to stop working out for a certain amount of days, it also means to get a good night sleep.
As your body goes into sleep mode it allows your body to heal itself and that includes your muscles. Studies show that as people sleep, chemicals that specifically heal muscle, such as human growth hormone and melatonin, are present in high amounts in your body. This is why it’s crucial to get a good nights sleep.
Typically the recommended eight hours of sleep is what your body will need to properly heal itself, but you may feel that only six or seven hours of sleep is more than enough. It’s really up to you to figure about your sleeping habits.
If you feel great when you wake up after a six-hour night of sleep then by all means that’s all you need. Pay attention to what your body tells you, it’s the only way to determine if you are giving it the proper sleep at night.
Recommend Resting Periods
As I talked about in the workout section I said that working out 2-3 times a week is all you need. So resting the remaining 4-5 days is recommended. But it also helps if you space out those workouts whether it’s one day or four days. You don’t build muscle at the gym. Really.
You are only breaking those muscles down and the time after you workout is when your muscles are trying to build themselves up again. And they can only do this is if you rest and fill them with healthy food.
They say that muscles fully repair themselves after about a week or so, specifically 7-10 days. So why would you workout a muscle group twice in one week. It just doesn’t make sense. That’s why resting and listing to what your body tells you is all you need to practice proper resting to build muscle.
