Nutritionist vs Dietician

When trying to eat the right foods in the world of fitness, you might seek the help of a dietitians or even a nutritionist.  These are people that will help you to decide what to eat depending on your goals, body type, and your health.  Deciding which one is right for you can be confusing.  They both are in the same areas of healthcare.  Both job descriptions closely resemble each other.  They can seem to be interchangeable and some people may think they are the same job.  By definition a nutritionist is a person that studies nutrition and the different sources of food that certain foods bring to the table.  No pun intended.  They are more interested in the science of nutrition and they will suggest what foods to and not eat.  A dietarian is more involved in people.  They help people in deciding which foods are right for them.  As far as education between them, a dietarian needs more qualification and needs at least a bachelor’s degree.  With a nutritionist they simply just need to know some information about nutrition.  A nutritionist is basically giving advice from there own experience that is not based on any book information.  It is simple word of mouth advice.

 Nutritionist vs Dietician

Let me point some key variation between the two.  A nutritionist is someone who studies nutrition.  They learn where different of sources of nutrition come from and they learn what to eat so people can have a more healthy diet.  Dietarian may help people with a disease due to their diet, obesity or any deficiency they might have.  A nutritionist is more involved in talking and more or so helps the community as a whole and rather than forces on disease.  They focuses on the actual foods that are being consume and how they react to the body.  A dietitian must be licensed to ensure they know what they are talking about.  In most states a nutritionist just has to have some useful knowledge about nutrition and gives useful insight about health and diets.  A dietitian will give a patient a step-by-step guide for healthy eating habits that outlines the different meals and the times when they should be eaten.  A nutritionist is less formal in his approach, unlike the dietitian where he gives them a diet plan, a nutritionist tells the people why they should eat certain foods and the science behind his advice.

Dietitian or Nutritionist: Which on is right for you?

Understanding the concepts is pretty confusing and both jobs are pretty much the same.  If you need a diet plan and someone telling you what to eat, then a dietitian is right for you.  They are found more in hospitals with a more stable setting.  They will speak to you at a matter of fact, rather than opinion.  A nutritionist is more useful in fitness roles such as sports, where they talk to athletes or can be useful in gyms where they give advice to bodybuilders.

So deciding which one is right for you depends a great deal in what you situation is.  Do you need a plan to help obesity or other ailment, or do you need some tips on your diet that are only short-term fixes.  Talk to a dietitian or a nutritionist to see which one best serves you.  You might even want to work with both.  You may need a diet plan and you might also want some extra advice to implement that diet plan.
